JNV Class 6 entrance preparation
Navodaya Class 6 coaching and JNVST Class 6 preparation are the same task. The child is usually in Class 5. The useful work is the three sections of the paper, reviewed mistakes, and a clock. A second book that repeats the first chapter does not add a new skill.

JNVST for Class VI is conducted by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti for admission to Class 6 in a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The 2027-28 prospectus describes a two-hour objective test, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, with 80 questions for 100 marks and one booklet of three sections. Answers go on a separate OMR sheet with a blue or black ballpoint pen.
The Samiti’s enrolment-policy page still describes an older first section made only of mental ability. The 2027-28 prospectus puts environmental studies inside that first section. Use the prospectus for the session you are applying in.

Eligibility for the 2027-28 session
These rules are from the Class VI prospectus for session 2027-28. The next prospectus can change the dates. Do not copy them onto a later year.
A candidate applies to the JNV of the district where they actually live, and is generally studying Class V there in 2026-27 in a government or recognised school. Studying Class V in a neighbouring district is allowed only within the distance and checks printed in the prospectus, and the form still goes to the home district. Students who already passed Class V before 2026-27 are not eligible. Class III, IV and V each need a full session. The date of birth in that prospectus is from 1 May 2015 to 31 July 2017, inclusive, for every category.
At least 75 percent of the seats in a district are filled from rural areas. Rural or urban status follows the school’s notified area across Classes III to V, not a family’s preference. Reservation for SC, ST and OBC is also in the prospectus and is district-specific.

Exam pattern
The prospectus tells candidates not to spend longer than the suggested time on a section, though they may move time inside the two hours. A minimum in each section is required: 14 marks in mental ability and EVS, 7 in arithmetic, and 7 in language. Extra time of 40 minutes is allowed for Divyang students under the conditions in the prospectus.

Syllabus
Mental ability in this prospectus is non-verbal: pattern completion, figure series, geometrical completion, mirror and water images, and embedded figures, four questions in each of those five parts. Questions 21 to 40 are environmental studies: surroundings, the human body, science in daily life, and social surroundings, including one passage. Arithmetic is twenty questions on primary number work, operations, factors, fractions, measurement, area, angles and data. Language is four passages with five questions each.

Mental ability and EVS preparation
Older books that drill only forty figure questions will miss half of the first section in the 2027-28 paper. Keep the figure habits, and add a short EVS reading each week: water cycle, food, maps of India at a Class 5 level, and a passage you can answer from the text.
Name the figure rule in one phrase before you look at the options. If you cannot name it, you are guessing.

Arithmetic preparation
Stay inside the topics the prospectus names. Fractions in that document are like-fraction addition and subtraction, and multiplication. It says unlike fractions and division of fractions are not included. Word problems should be read twice. A shortcut the child cannot explain is not a method.

The language section is reading, not a grammar textbook. Four passages means the child must finish a passage and its five questions without getting stuck on one word. Prepare in the medium selected on the NVS form. The prospectus says that medium cannot be changed later.

Study plan
On a school day, forty focused minutes beat a Sunday that never starts. Give figures and EVS three sittings a week, arithmetic three, and one passage every day. Redo only the wrong items mid-week. One timed paper on the weekend is enough if it is reviewed the same day.

Mock tests
A Class 6 mock is useful when it has all three sections and an OMR-style answer habit. NT Classes includes timed papers in the enrolled test series. This website does not publish a public bank of official NVS papers. The Samiti says a set of sample questions is uploaded under Admission on navodaya.gov.in.

Practice sets and previous-year questions
Daily practice papers are part of the kit described on the site. Previous-year style questions are used in class so students see how a topic is asked. NT Classes does not host the official question-paper PDF on this website, and a coaching set is not the Samiti’s paper. Treat any “previous year” file that skips environmental studies as out of date for the 2027-28 pattern.
