Class 9 lateral entry
JNV Class 9 coaching and lateral entry preparation
Class 9 Navodaya preparation is not a harder Class 6 paper. It is a subject test for vacant seats in Class IX. नवोदय कक्षा 9 की तैयारी starts by checking that your district has notified the test. NT Classes then teaches English, Hindi, mathematics and science in the objective style of that paper.

A different exam from Class 6
The Class IX selection test fills empty seats. It is not held in every district every year. The 2027-28 prospectus schedules that session’s test and says admission is only against vacancies in the JNV concerned. A coaching timetable cannot create a seat.
The paper is objective, answered on an OMR sheet, in English or Hindi. The medium chosen on the form cannot be changed later. Difficulty is Class VIII. There is no mental-ability figure section.

Eligibility for session 2027-28
The Class IX prospectus for 2027-28 says the candidate must be an Indian national and a bona fide resident of the district, studying Class VIII in 2026-27 in a government or government-recognised school of that same district. The district of residence and the district of Class VIII study must match. Students who already passed Class VIII in an earlier session are not eligible. A candidate who has already appeared in a previous lateral-entry test is also not eligible under that prospectus.
The date of birth printed for that session is 1 May 2012 to 31 July 2014, inclusive, for every category. These dates expire with the session. Read the next prospectus before you reuse them.

Exam pattern
The 2027-28 test is two and a half hours without a break. Divyang candidates are allowed an extra 50 minutes under the conditions in the prospectus. A candidate must reach the qualifying marks NVS sets in all four subjects. The merit list in that prospectus uses mathematics, science, and the better of the two languages. It does not add both languages into the ranking total.
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| English | 15 | 15 |
| Hindi | 15 | 15 |
| Mathematics | 35 | 35 |
| General science | 35 | 35 |
| Total | 100 | 100 |

Syllabus
English in the prospectus is unseen comprehension plus sentence work: spelling, jumbled words, voice, comparison, modals, prepositions, tenses and reported speech. Hindi covers usage, grammar and an unseen passage. Mathematics runs from rational numbers through mensuration and data handling at Class 8. Science follows the Class 8 chapters named in the prospectus, from crop production through light.

How to prepare the four subjects
Do not spend the year on Class 6 figure practice. Split the week across mathematics, science and the two languages. School tests allow long answers. This paper does not, so each chapter needs a short objective set.
Because merit uses the stronger language, a student who is clearly stronger in Hindi should still keep English alive. The prospectus still requires qualifying marks in every subject, including the weaker language.

Mock tests, practice and the course
A Class 9 mock has to be four subjects, not a Class 6 booklet with a new cover. Enrolled students get daily practice papers and the online test series described on the site. Official NVS papers are not downloadable from this website.
The Class 9 batch is live and online in the evening. Confirm with the counsellor that the open group is a Class 9 Navodaya batch, not only a Class 6 group, and that a vacancy is actually notified for your district.
Questions on this topic
Is every district conducting the Class 9 Navodaya test?
No. Lateral entry fills vacant seats. The prospectus tells parents to check the vacancy notice for the JNV. Coaching cannot create a vacancy.
Can I prepare for Class 9 with the Class 6 mental-ability book?
No. The Class 9 paper is English, Hindi, mathematics and science at Class 8 level. Figure practice does not cover it.
Does NT Classes teach JNV Class 9 online?
Yes, as an evening online batch. Ask which mock papers and notes are included, and confirm your district has a notified test, before you pay.
