Navodaya admission: what to verify

Navodaya admission and the JNVST application are run by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. NT Classes cannot reserve a seat. The points below are taken from the Class VI and Class IX prospectuses for session 2027-28. Treat every date as session-specific.

Reviewed 2 October 2026

Official information

Class 6 eligibility in the 2027-28 prospectus

Apply only to the JNV of the district where the child lives. The child should be studying Class V in 2026-27 in a government or recognised school, with Classes III, IV and V each studied for a full session. A neighbouring-district school is allowed only inside the distance rule printed in the prospectus. Students who already passed Class V earlier are not eligible. The date of birth window in that prospectus is 1 May 2015 to 31 July 2017, inclusive.

At least 75 percent of seats are for candidates from rural schools, judged by where the child studied in Classes III to V. Category reservation is also in the prospectus.

Official information

Class 9 eligibility in the 2027-28 prospectus

Lateral entry is against vacant seats only. The candidate must be studying Class VIII in 2026-27 in a government or recognised school in the same district as their residence and the JNV. The date of birth window in that prospectus is 1 May 2012 to 31 July 2014, inclusive. Students who already passed Class VIII, or who already sat a previous lateral-entry test, are not eligible under that document.

Official information

Application process

Both prospectuses say the form is filled on the NVS website, navodaya.gov.in. For Class IX 2027-28, the prospectus gives Wednesday 30 September 2026 as the last date to apply, with a two-day correction window afterwards, and names Saturday 10 April 2027 as the test date. The Class VI prospectus tells candidates to enter the date of birth exactly as in the birth certificate and school record. A wrong district can get the form rejected even after a provisional score.

The enquiry form on the NT Classes homepage does not submit this application.

Official information

Dates you must not reuse next year

Age cut-offs, the last date to apply, and the exam date are printed for one session. When NVS releases the next prospectus, those three facts can move. If this page and navodaya.gov.in disagree, follow navodaya.gov.in.

Where coaching fits

Once eligibility is clear, preparation is the syllabus, the pattern and a reviewed mock. Class pages describe the evening course. A counsellor can explain a batch. They cannot change a vacancy or a date of birth rule.

Questions on this topic

Can NT Classes submit the official JNVST form?

No. The official form is on the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti portal. The NT Classes form is an enquiry about classes.

Are the dates on this page permanent?

No. They are the dates printed in the 2027-28 prospectuses. The next session’s prospectus replaces them.
