JNV syllabus for Class 6 and Class 9

Parents looking for JNV syllabus, JNVST syllabus or नवोदय का सिलेबस need the Samiti’s list, not a coaching paraphrase that dropped a section. Below, official topics are marked separately from the way NT Classes suggests you practise them.

Reviewed 2 October 2026

Official information

Class 6 mental ability

In the 2027-28 Class VI prospectus the first 20 questions are non-verbal. Five parts have four questions each: pattern completion, figure series, geometrical figure completion, mirror and water images, and embedded figures.

Official information

Class 6 environmental studies

Questions 21 to 40 of the same section are EVS: 15 multiple-choice items and one passage with 5 questions. The prospectus describes the scope as the natural world, the human body, science in daily life, and social surroundings. An older enrolment-policy page on navodaya.gov.in does not show this EVS block. Follow the prospectus for your session.

Official information

Class 6 arithmetic

All twenty arithmetic questions are meant to test understanding, not a trick. Topics named in the 2027-28 prospectus include the number system, the four operations, factors and multiples, fractions, measurement and unit conversion, simplification, perimeter and area, angles, and data shown in a bar diagram, table or pictograph. The fraction note says unlike fractions and division of fractions are not included. The prospectus heading refers to a longer topic count than the items that extracted cleanly from the PDF, so open the PDF before you treat any coaching list as complete.

Official information

Class 6 language

The language test assesses reading comprehension. It has four passages, and each passage has five questions. The booklet language is the one selected on the application, and the prospectus says it cannot be changed afterwards.

Official information

Class 9 subjects

The Class IX 2027-28 syllabus is Class VIII standard. It is not the Class 6 list.

  • English: unseen passage, words and sentences, spelling, jumbled words, voice, degrees of comparison, modals, prepositions, tenses, reported speech
  • Hindi: usage and grammar, plus an unseen passage, as set out in the prospectus
  • Mathematics: rational numbers, squares and cubes, exponents, proportion, comparing quantities, algebraic expressions, linear equations, quadrilaterals, mensuration, data handling
  • Science: the Class 8 chapters named in the prospectus, from crop production and microorganisms through force, friction, sound, electricity, natural phenomena and light

How NT Classes uses this list

Notes and daily papers should be checked against the list above, not against a ten-year-old booklet. If a PDF and the current prospectus disagree, follow the prospectus. The class pages describe the evening course. The skill guides describe how to practise one section.
